Tips for washing our cat

These pets know how to groom themselves and although they hate water they must go through the bathtub

There are more and more pets in the home. And the cats gain presence. Its homely and discreet character, although with its peculiarities, associated with its desire for freedom and exploration. One of the most frequent doubts about the care of cats has to do with their grooming. Although it is clear that, like any animal, it needs hygiene, washing a feline should not be a task that goes beyond two or three times a year, according to experts.

What are the reasons why the cat does not require a frequent bath? For they have to do above all with its own functioning, in which the animal completes its own grooming. It is not uncommon to see the cat use its teeth and tongue to clean itself and remove unwanted hair. The cat is also used to being a clean animal, as evidenced by the fact that it is scrupulous when it comes to relieving itself in the sandbox.

The deep aversion of cats to water is known, even though many of their owners see them milling around the sink to drink water from the tap. The reason is that the cat’s hair contains powerful pheromones that function as tracks that, when rubbed, leave on people and objects in order to identify them. Cleaning their hair causes them to lose those pheromones, which they dislike.

However, this does not mean that the cat does not need human help for its hygiene and care. That is why it is convenient to brush it, preferably weekly, to remove excess hair, especially on the back. However, if the cat has a lot of hair, it is advisable to brush it every day.

In addition to that, we must not forget that, indeed, the cat also needs to go through the bathtub, even if it does not like it and the difficulties are maximum for its owners. To facilitate the work, it is advisable to take a series of previous steps and aspects that are worth knowing so that the animal does not get scared by an element, water, before which it feels very uncomfortable.

The first thing is to use gloves that can protect us from the foreseeable scratches of the cat. The next thing will be to place a towel or a rag so that the cat can grab his nails and the surface and thus not slip. Also, once we start to bathe him, be careful not to get water in his ear.

It is important to use warm water, not too cold or hot, and also use a specific shampoo for felines, never that for people or dogs. It is advisable not to do the washing abruptly so as not to scare the cat further in a situation of great stress for the animal. To dry it, it is best to use several towels, gently stroking the cat. Finally, to reward him and lead him better the next time, it is good to give him some of his favorite foods.
